UTB welcomes new students through a two-day induction

Reinforcing its ongoing commitment to delivering a supportive, student-centred, and future-focused learning environment, the University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) organised a two-day induction as the second trimester began, designed to prepare new students academically, psychologically, and socially for a confident start to their university journey.

The event forms a core part of UTB’s vision to ensure a smooth transition into university life by familiarising students with its academic systems, student services, and innovative programmes. It also highlighted UTB’s distinctive position as the only university in the Kingdom of Bahrain offering a trimestral academic system, enabling students to fast-track their graduation and gain work credentials earlier than traditional academic pathways.

The induction aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of university life and its academic demands, while introducing them to UTB’s educational, advisory, and facilities. This early engagement supports students in building a balanced and integrated learning experience from day one—rooted in interaction, belonging, and the pursuit of academic and professional excellence.

As part of the induction, the different student clubs were exhibited, offering new students an overview of the university’s diverse student organisations and encouraging active participation in extracurricular life. Student representatives emphasised that club engagement plays a vital role in promoting volunteerism, community service, and social responsibility, while also developing leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that complement academic achievement.

Inspiring peer-to-peer learning was also showcased through student-led presentations. Shaikha Mohammed, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student, delivered an overview of her academic journey and presented her graduation project. This innovative mental health chatbot demonstrates how UTB’s applied learning approach empowers students to translate technical knowledge into impactful, real-world solutions. She highlighted how such projects foster creativity, innovation, and future-ready thinking.

Similarly, Abdulla Mohammed Jamal, a Bachelor of Science in Informatics Engineering student, introduced new students to the Internet of Things (IoT) Club, explaining how the club exposes members to interdisciplinary fields including computing, smart systems, hardware and software development, networking, and engineering applications related to automotive and electrical systems. He noted that the club enhances students’ technical competencies while offering practical training opportunities and industry exposure beyond the classroom, strengthening their readiness for the job market.

New students expressed strong appreciation for the organisation and the warm reception they experienced from their first day on campus. Many highlighted the positive atmosphere and the proactive role played by UTB’s academic and administrative teams in facilitating registration procedures, providing guidance, and introducing university facilities and services. This comprehensive support, they noted, instilled confidence and reassurance, enabling them to integrate quickly into university life and embark on their academic journey with enthusiasm and renewed ambition.

Through initiatives such as induction, the University of Technology Bahrain continues to reaffirm its commitment to delivering an accelerated, high-quality educational experience, empowering students to graduate sooner, build competitive career credentials, and succeed in an increasingly dynamic global workforce.
