UTB supports marine revitalisation campaign

In a significant step towards environmental sustainability and community engagement, the College of Engineering at the University of Technology Bahrain (UTB), in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Seef Bahrain, hosted an awareness session for the UTB community. The event was led by Mr Basel Aryan, President of the Rotary Club of Seef Bahrain, whose advocacy is marked by a passion for impactful, community-driven initiatives.

The session spotlighted MaRiva, a pioneering environmental project dedicated to revitalising Bahrain’s marine ecosystems. With marine pollution and habitat degradation posing growing threats to biodiversity, MaRiva seeks to address these challenges through collective action, ecological restoration, and sustainable practices. Mr Basel Aryan spoke with conviction about the importance of safeguarding marine life for future generations, describing the project as “a mission to make a lasting, positive impact on our environment, one that thrives through collaboration, service, and leadership.”

Underscoring the inclusive nature of the initiative, he extended a direct invitation to the UTB community, especially students, to take an active role in MaRiva by joining its various committees and contributing their skills and passion to the cause. He encouraged students to embrace the spirit of volunteerism and environmental stewardship, positioning themselves as changemakers in the drive for sustainability.

Dr Hasan Almulla, President of UTB, reaffirmed the university’s strong commitment to the initiative, commending Mr Basel Aryan’s leadership. “At UTB, we believe in taking proactive steps to address pressing global and local challenges. With our offering of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, we are equipping students with the knowledge and tools needed to protect and preserve our ecosystems,” he said. He expressed confidence that UTB community members will contribute meaningfully to the project through innovation, research, and civic responsibility.

Also speaking on behalf of UTB, Dr Adnan Altamimi, Vice President for Administration and Finance and Head of Community Engagement Office, praised the MaRiva initiative and echoed Dr Hasan Almulla’s remarks. He highlighted the role of UTB CarEs, the university’s flagship initiative, in fostering impactful collaborations for environmental sustainability, economic resilience, and social responsibility. “Through UTB CarEs, we empower our community to take active roles in initiatives that not only educate but also create long-term benefits for society and the environment,” he noted.

UTB looks forward to advancing a shared vision of sustainability, community empowerment, and a transformative mindset across the Kingdom of Bahrain.
