UTB supports Breast Cancer Awareness campaign
In support of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) organised a symposium and health awareness activities in coordination with Dr. Amal Alrayes and Bahrain Breast Cancer Society at the university premises.
Dr. Amal Alrayes, a General Surgical Oncologist & Breast Surgeon, gave an informative presentation on the early detection, causes, cures and preventive measures of breast cancer and other related health concerns. It was further inspired by a survival story shared by Dr. Rania Nafea whereby she shared her journey after being diagnosed with breast cancer. In their talks, they emphasized that while breast cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the breast and that the main reasons are genetics and certain environmental or behavioral triggers, proper health education is the best prevention to fight all sorts of cancer, hence encouraging everyone to be keen on their health conditions.
Fund raising, Dinar for Distance (D4D) campaign, and engaging activities facilitated by Bahrain Breast Cancer Society and UTB Student Council made the event pinker.
Meanwhile, a number of UTB students and members participated in the Women’s Tournament event organised by Rotary Clubs of Seef and Adliya under the Patronage of Her Highness Dr. Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa – Board Member of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and Head of the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) Women Committee at Al Najma Sports Club in Juffair.
These activities and external participation come along with UTB’s drive of promoting health, physical wellness and work efficiency while fostering cooperative alliances and partnerships with other entities and institutions in the community.
