UTB students embark on insightful educational tours
University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) recently organised an educational tour for its students, offering an exclusive look into three of the Kingdom’s top companies: Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY), and Bahrain Bourse. Spearheaded by UTB’s Alumni and Development Centre (ACDC) in collaboration with the Colleges of Engineering, Computer Studies, and Administrative and Financial Sciences, the initiative aimed to equip students with practical insights into Bahrain’s industrial and financial sectors. By bridging academic learning with real-world exposure, the tour played a vital role in enhancing students’ professional development and preparing them for successful careers.
UTB engineering, computer science, and information technology students gained valuable insights into cutting-edge manufacturing processes during their visit to Alba’s advanced manufacturing facilities! Led by Mr. Ebrahim Al-Naham, Alba’s PR Officer, the tour offered students a closer look at Alba’s operations. The tour was followed by an insightful workshop by Mr. Abdulla Al-Mabbad, Alba’s Head of IT Infrastructure. Mr. Al-Mabbad shared valuable knowledge on Alba’s integrated IT solutions and provided expert advice on how students can focus their respective careers.
Similarly, the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering students had the unique opportunity to explore Alba’s comprehensive ESG (Environment, Society, Governance) initiatives, gaining firsthand insight into its dedication to environmental stewardship. This enriching experience extended beyond traditional classroom learning, exposing students to the real-world application of sustainable practices. They observed how the company implements strategies to conserve resources, reduce environmental footprints, and contribute to protecting the environment while promoting the principles of a circular economy through waste minimisation and resource reuse. This hands-on exposure not only enhanced their academic understanding but also inspired them to pursue innovative solutions for pressing environmental challenges in their future endeavors.
At ASRY, the Arabian Gulf’s premier maritime repair and fabrication hub, UTB students had an exclusive glimpse into the company’s state-of-the-art facilities , where they explored advanced ship maintenance, repair, and fabrication processes. Through hands-on learning and direct exposure to industry practices, students deepened their understanding of maritime technology, operational excellence, and the critical role of maintenance in the shipping sector. Such immersive experiences not only strengthen technical expertise but also broaden career horizons, empowering our future engineers to make waves in the maritime industry.
Meanwhile, business students delved into the dynamic world of capital markets at Bahrain Bourse. The experience included a workshop titled “Introduction to Capital Market,” delivered by Mr. Elyas Baqer, who expertly guided students through the intricacies of Bahrain and international stock exchanges, the role of investors, and a variety of investment opportunities. The visit also featured a guided tour, offering students firsthand exposure to the operations of Bahrain Bourse and seamlessly bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application.
