UTB students participate in AUBH Generative AI Hackathon
In a remarkable display of innovation and technical expertise, computer studies and engineering students from the University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) participated in AUBH’s second Annual Generative AI Hackathon, where each student was assigned to a team with peers from various universities across Bahrain. The three-day event offered students hands-on workshops, mentorship, and industry insights into how generative AI is revolutionising content creation, boosting efficiency, and enhancing creativity.
The winning team, Ethical Bytes, developed a static website designed to educate children on responsible AI usage. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into daily life, the platform empowers young learners to understand and navigate this technology safely and wisely.
“Winning first place reinforced my passion for technology and innovation, showing me how AI can be leveraged to develop meaningful educational solutions. It also proved that teamwork and creativity can transform an idea into a winning project. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to continue exploring AI and responsible innovation,” shared Issa Mohamed, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student specialising in Networking and Cyber Security.
Securing second place, Maryam Aysha, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student, reflected on her experience, “Our platform makes AI education engaging and accessible through interactive stories, gamified learning, and AI-generated content. The hackathon challenged us to think creatively, collaborate effectively, and build a functional educational platform. Winning was a proud moment, and I deeply appreciate my team, organisers, mentors, and judges for their support throughout this inspiring experience.”
Khaled Abdulla, also a BSCS student, celebrated his team’s achievement in third place: “My team explored AI’s potential in creative development, showcasing its effectiveness in design and content creation. Securing third place was an honour, and I’m grateful for the support that made this experience possible.”
As a leading university in technology-driven education, UTB continues to empower students through its quality bachelor’s programmes, including data analytics and artificial intelligence, networking and cyber security, applications development, computer science, mechatronics engineering, informatics engineering, accounting and finance, business informatics, and international business, along with industry-responsive master’s programmes.
