UTB’s environmental engineering students earn professional training certification from Alba
Students of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering at the University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) have recently completed their participation in a specialised professional training programme organised by Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), aimed at obtaining the internationally recognised Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely certification in occupational health and safety. The programme forms part of efforts to promote a strong safety culture within industrial work environments and to equip students with the practical knowledge and skills required to perform efficiently and responsibly in this vital field.
The programme included a series of practical workshops and interactive lectures on workplace safety risk management, accident prevention methods, and occupational health awareness, aligned with international best practices and recognised global standards for employee safety and wellbeing.
Dr Hasan Almulla, President of UTB, emphasised the importance of this qualitative collaboration with leading companies in the industrial and economic sectors. He commended Alba’s role in supporting the educational process and bridging academic learning with practical application.
“We highly appreciate Alba’s efforts in delivering this specialised programme, which reflects its commitment to supporting Bahraini youth by providing them with practical experience and essential professional certifications. Such initiatives play a key role in equipping students with the skills required for the labour market, particularly in the field of occupational health and safety, which has become a fundamental necessity across modern work environments,” he said.
For his part, Mr Ali Al Baqali, Chief Executive Officer of Alba, expressed his pride in organising the training programme and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to investing in young national talent.
“This programme is part of a series of training initiatives that Alba is keen to offer to the local community. We are proud of the high level of engagement and commitment demonstrated by the students at the University of Technology Bahrain and their eagerness to acquire knowledge in the field of occupational safety. Knowledge sharing within areas of expertise represents a core pillar of our corporate social responsibility and an important contributor to empowering Bahraini youth to actively participate in the Kingdom’s diverse development pathways,” he added.
Participating students noted that the programme provided a valuable educational experience that enhanced their professional skills and preparedness for the labour market. They highlighted that hands-on training in a real industrial environment, combined with earning an internationally accredited professional certification, provides significant added value to their academic and future professional careers.
At the closing ceremony, Dr Adnan Altamimi, Vice President for Administration and Finance and Head of Community Engagement Office at UTB, expressed his sincere appreciation to Alba for its continued support and fruitful cooperation with the University. He affirmed that such initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to supporting education and empowering students in accordance with the highest professional standards. He also presented Alba with a token of appreciation for its valuable contributions and active role in the successful delivery of the training programme.
UTB affirms that encouraging students to obtain internationally recognised professional certifications, such as IOSH Managing Safely, is a core component of its educational strategy. These certifications play a significant role in preparing students and equipping them with the practical and technical skills required by the labour market, particularly in the fields of health, safety, and environment, which continue to witness growing demand.
This joint initiative between UTB and Alba reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the culture of occupational safety, developing qualified national competencies, and reinforcing the role of corporate social responsibility among major companies in the Kingdom of Bahrain, thereby supporting the integration of academic education and practical experience and contributing to sustainable development pathways.
