UTB showcases students’ literary brilliance
University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) buzzed with creativity and enthusiasm as students took centre stage for UTB Got Talent 2024, celebrating literary genres through spoken word poetry, calligraphy, and public speaking. Competing in either Arabic and English categories, students from various programmes demonstrated their talents, captivating both the judges and the audience.
The event highlighted UTB’s commitment to fostering artistic expression and communication skills, providing students with a platform to showcase their abilities in diverse literary genres. Whether through the beauty of creative words, the art of calligraphy, or the power of spoken language, the contestants brought their unique perspectives and voices to life.
The panel of judges evaluated the performances, while the audience also played a pivotal role, casting public votes to support their favourite contestants, adding an interactive and engaging dimension to the competition.
Dr. Haitham Alqahtani, Vice President for Academic Affairs, praised the participants, stating, “Events like UTB Got Talent highlight our commitment to holistic education. By nurturing your literary and artistic talents, the university aims to equip you for academic, professional, and personal success.”
The event was a resounding success, with highlights including emotionally charged poem recitals, visually stunning calligraphy displays, and compelling speeches that inspired and entertained the crowd. The event showcased the linguistic diversity and creativity of UTB’s vibrant student body.
Winners across all categories were honoured in the closing ceremony, receiving recognition for their powerful performances. In the spoken word poetry category, Mohammed Soltani, a BS in International Business student, took first place for his performance in English, while Hasnaa Isa Talaq, a BS in Mechatronics Engineering student, also secured first place for her performance in Arabic. Sagar Ali, a BS in Computer Science student, earned second place. In the calligraphy category, the winners in Arabic were Raza Ahmed (BS in Mechatronics Engineering) who took first place, Shuja Akram (BS in International Business) who came in second, and Ayman Albast (BS in Mechatronics Engineering) who secured third place. For English calligraphy, Ayisha Hussain (BS in Informatics Engineering) won first place, Minahal Sabeen (BS in Computer Science) took second, and Hadeel Ammar (BS in Business Informatics) came in third. The public speaking category also saw impressive performances. In Arabic, Zainab Hani Sultan (BS in Mechatronics Engineering) won first place, Ayman Albast (BS in Mechatronics Engineering) took second, and Mohamed Mahmoud (BS in Information Technology Major in Networking and Cybersecurity) secured third place. In English, Muhammad Bilal (BS in Computer Science) won first place, Sana Zainaba (BS in Mechatronics Engineering) took second, and Adam Bituin (BS in Information Technology Major in Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) came in third.
UTB Got Talent 2024 not only served as a platform for cultural exchange, bridging the beauty of Arabic and English literary traditions, but also reinforced UTB’s mission to cultivate a thriving, inclusive, and dynamic community.
