UTB launches MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management in support of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030

In the presence of Her Excellency Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al Jahromi, Secretary General of the Higher Education Council (HEC), the University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) officially launched its Master of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (MSLSCM). The ceremony was attended by representatives from government entities, industry leaders, academicians, alumni and students.

The launch of this programme marks a significant milestone in UTB’s journey towards academic excellence and its commitment to aligning higher education outcomes with the evolving needs of the industrial sector. The programme is the result of an extensive feasibility study that examined local, regional, and global developments in logistics and supply chain management. The findings highlighted a fast-growing demand for specialised professionals equipped with advanced analytical competencies, digital fluency, and strategic leadership skills – key capabilities required to navigate today’s complex, technology-driven, and sustainability-focused supply chain environments.

In response, UTB designed this master’s programme to prepare strategic leaders capable of advancing Bahrain’s logistics ambitions and supporting the Kingdom’s Economic Vision 2030.

In her speech, Her Excellency Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al Jahromi underscored the importance of developing impactful academic programmes that respond to global challenges and champion Bahrain’s sustainable development goals. She commended UTB for its balanced approach in maintaining academic excellence while ensuring its programmes remain closely aligned with labour market needs, and praised the strong partnership between the Higher Education Council and higher education institutions in elevating Bahrain’s global educational standing.

Dr Hasan Almulla, UTB President, expressed his deep gratitude to Her Excellency Dr Al Jahrami and the Higher Education Council for their continued support and commitment to fostering innovation in higher education. He reaffirmed the university’s dedication to designing programmes that reflect national priorities and global industry shifts, emphasising that the new master’s programme strengthens Bahrain’s strategic direction by preparing highly skilled professionals who can propel the logistics and supply chain sectors to new heights.

Eng Mayyas Al-Moataz Bellah Agha, Assistant Undersecretary for Ports Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, emphasised the strategic importance of the logistics and supply chain sectors as key pillars in driving economic growth and achieving the Kingdom’s comprehensive sustainable development aspirations. He highlighted Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to modernise and expand its logistics and port infrastructure, reinforcing Bahrain’s position as an integrated regional hub for trade and commercial activity. He also commended UTB’s initiative to align and develop its academic programmes, particularly in supply chain management, in line with digital and technological transformation priorities, ensuring the labour market is equipped with future-ready professional capabilities.

Dr Haitham Al Qahtani, UTB’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented an overview of the academic structure of the new programme. He outlined its strong focus on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, sustainability, data-driven decision-making, and global supply chain leadership. He further stressed UTB’s commitment to meeting the industrial sector’s evolving needs and strengthening partnerships with logistics and supply chain service providers to ensure the programme’s relevance and real-world impact.

The event also featured a panel discussion titled “Logistics and Supply Chains: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities”, with contributions from prominent industry experts – Ms Shalu Khandelwal Rastogi, Co-Founder and Director at Berrio Logistics Services; Mr Peethambaran Nair, Managing Director at Globe Link Logistics; and Mr Ali Salman, Associate Director of Supply Chain at Calo Inc – moderated by Mr Omar Abu Taha, Regional E-Commerce Business Development Manager at DHL Express. The discussion explored technological innovation, operational resilience, green logistics, and emerging global supply chain strategies, reinforcing UTB’s pivotal role in bridging academic and industry innovation to meet the region’s workforce demands.

Accredited by the European Council for Business Education (ECBE), UTB’s MSLSCM programme features a flexible delivery model with weekend classes tailored to working professionals. The programme combines academic rigor with practical relevance, enabling professionals to apply advanced competencies in real-world industry settings.

With the introduction of this new programme, UTB further expands its portfolio of future-focused postgraduate offerings and reaffirms its commitment to developing outstanding leaders in logistics and supply chain management – contributing to enhanced regional competitiveness, operational excellence, and sustainable economic growth across Bahrain, the GCC, and beyond.
