UTB launches Bahrain’s first ISACA student chapter
The University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) has proudly inaugurated the ISACA Student Group (ISG) UTB Chapter, marking the establishment of Bahrain’s first student chapter recognised by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). The launch event featured an introductory seminar on IT governance and the COBIT framework, further underscoring UTB’s commitment to equipping students with essential skills in information technology and governance.
The unveiling was led by Dr. Hasan Almulla, UTB President, and Dr. Mazen Ali, President of ISACA Bahrain. In his address, Dr. Hasan Almulla thanked ISACA Bahrain, particularly with the leadership of Dr. Mazen Ali, and to everyone who contributed to the realisation of ISG. He highlighted that establishing the student chapter is more than organisational; it embodies a commitment to digital trust. He also emphasised the chapter’s role in fostering collaboration, leadership, and employability skills among students.
Dr. Mazen Ali extended ISACA Bahrain’s support to the ISG UTB Chapter, noting the career and professional development services ISACA offers, which will aid students in accessing essential industry opportunities.
In his remarks, Mohamed Ali, ISG President, shared the journey of forming the group, expressing appreciation for the support from UTB’s management, faculty, and his fellow officers. He encouraged students to seize every opportunity to deepen their understanding of IT systems and governance.
The event also included a seminar led by Mr. Ravi Jayasundera, Vice President of ISACA Bahrain Chapter and a COBIT Implementer-Assessor. His presentation, Introduction to IT Governance and COBIT , explored the importance of IT governance amid digital transformation and introduced the COBIT framework. He discussed the distinction between governance and management, emphasising governance’s role in aligning IT with business goals to create value. He further explained COBIT’s structured approach to assessing and enhancing IT governance capabilities, as well as its integration with other frameworks.
The launch of the ISG UTB Chapter signifies a milestone in UTB’s drive to advance digital education and strengthen students’ preparedness for future roles in information governance and cybersecurity.
