UTB joins TEDxDilmun as an academic partner
University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) demonstrated its leadership in innovation and applied technology as its students excelled at TEDxDilmun 2025, supported by the GFH Financial Group. The event, one of Bahrain’s most prominent platforms for ideas and innovation, brought together global thought leaders and distinguished guests led by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
As the first private university in Bahrain to be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the only university offering a Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering in Bahrain, UTB continues to reaffirm its position as a leader in engineering education and applied innovation.
UTB’s strong presence at TEDxDilmun reflected the university’s commitment to empowering students through applied, sustainable, and smart technology solutions aligned with the needs of modern industries, communities, and the world. More than 30 UTB students took on key organisational roles after receiving specialised training from the official TEDxDilmun executive team, delivering professionalism, operational excellence, and teamwork throughout the event. They also presented a series of advanced robots designed and manufactured entirely at UTB through the mechatronics engineering programme, showcasing the university’s dedication to hands-on learning, engineering innovation, and real-world problem-solving. In addition, Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering student, Ali Esfandiar, was one of the event’s segment hosts, demonstrating leadership, communication skills, and confidence on stage.
The contributions of UTB students were widely recognised by event organisers and leadership.
Ms Soraya Sarif, Executive Director of TEDxDilmun, said, “We were delighted to have UTB as our academic partner. Our vision is to create a platform that not only showcases ideas but also transforms them into tangible impact. By involving UTB’s student volunteers, we aimed to empower a new generation of creative thinkers capable of driving positive change in their communities.”
Dr Hasan Almulla, President of UTB, affirmed the university’s pride in the students’ accomplishments, emphasising that their achievements represent the strength of UTB’s academic environment, which nurtures confidence, advanced knowledge, leadership, and innovation among its students. “Our participation in TEDxDilmun represented an important step in promoting innovation and applied learning among our students. We are proud that our students were part of this global event, which brought together thinkers and creators from around the world and reinforced Bahrain’s position as a regional hub for education and technology.”
As one of Bahrain’s leading technology-focused universities, UTB continues to integrate internationally accredited programmes, an industry-driven curriculum, and applied, sustainable engineering practices that prepare graduates to thrive in both local and global markets.
