UTB hosts ICETAS 2024 on process industry efficiency

University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) organised the ninth International Conference on Engineering and Applied Sciences (ICETAS 2024) in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Bahrain Section and Engineering, Technology and Social Science Management (ETSSM). The event was graced by the presence of His Excellency Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Higher Education Council, along with a distinguished group of guests, academicians, and researchers at the InterContinental Bahrain.

The conference, held from November 20-22, has foster international collaboration among researchers and practitioners in the fields of engineering, technology and applied sciences. Under the theme “Enhancement of Process Industries’ Efficiencies, i4.0 Approach,” focusing on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, robotics, big data, and automation, addressing current challenges and future opportunities.

It has also provided a platform for exchanging ideas and innovations, showcasing the latest research and developments across various engineering disciplines, strengthening academic and industrial relationships, contributing to knowledge development and innovation in these significant fields.

Sponsored by Khaleeji and Batelco, the conference agenda emphasised aligning the university’s outputs in engineering and applied sciences with the latest market requirements and developments. It also aims to discuss new industry trends and the need to adapt academic plans to meet changing market needs.

Dr. Hasan Almulla, President of UTB, expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Juma for his unwavering support of UTB and the private higher education sector in Bahrain. He noted that the conference has brought together elite researchers from around the world, presenting over 400 scientific papers for three days, reflecting a deep commitment to knowledge development and enhancing cooperation with academic and industrial institutions.

A highlight of the conference was the keynote speech by Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, who inspired attendees with his insights into the transformative power of technology. He presented the role of innovation in driving societal progress, addressing global challenges, and shaping a sustainable future. Additionally, six other esteemed keynote speakers enriched the conference by sharing their expertise and groundbreaking research.

Dr. Husham Ahmed, Conference Chair, stated that the conference has discussed rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and automation, supporting industrial production processes, and strengthening the relationship between local and global academic institutions and deepening partnerships with industrial entities.

ICETAS 2024 marked a significant milestone for UTB, reaffirming its dedication to advancing knowledge, driving research, and promoting global collaboration.
