UTB hosts Blooms in Pink to strengthen community health and wellbeing
The University of Technology Bahrain (UTB), in collaboration with Ra’edat, organised the Blooms in Pink initiative, a two-day awareness and well-being campaign held on 6 and 7 October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Bahrain’s national health initiatives.
The event brought together healthcare professionals, community leaders, partners from various sectors, students, staff and members of the public to encourage early detection, preventive healthcare, and a broader understanding of holistic well-being and integrated health.
Promoting Health Awareness Through Collaboration
During the opening ceremony, Dr Hasan Almulla, President of UTB, welcomed distinguished guests and expressed his appreciation to the keynote speakers, medical experts, partners, organisers, the UTB community, and the wider community. He also highlighted the university’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
“At UTB, we believe universities have a responsibility that extends beyond academic achievement. Through initiatives such as this, UTB seeks to empower our communities with knowledge, support national health priorities, and inspire positive change through education and awareness,” he said.
Echoing the importance of collaboration in advancing public health, Mr Ubaydli Al Ubaydli, Founder and Chairman of Ra’edat, represented by Mr Ahmed Al Hujairy, emphasised the value of collective action in fostering a healthier society.
“Meaningful change happens when communities come together with a common purpose. By strengthening partnerships and encouraging open conversations around health, we can foster greater awareness, early intervention and a culture of wellbeing for all.”

Expert Sessions Focus on Prevention and Wellbeing
Attendees heard from leading experts covering topics related to breast cancer screening, emotional resilience, self-care and healthy lifestyles.
Delivering the keynote speech on “Breast Cancer Screening in Bahrain – Between History & Present”, Dr. Amal Al Rayes, Consultant General Surgical Oncologist and Breast Surgeon at Al Kindi Hospital, emphasised the importance of early detection and regular screening programmes.
Participants also attended a session by Dr. Summer Fakhro, Clinical Psychologist, titled “Beyond the Diagnosis: Supporting Emotional Wellbeing”, which explored the emotional and psychological aspects of navigating a cancer diagnosis.
On the second day, Dr. Amal Aljowder, Family Medicine Consultant, presented “Self-Care: Your Journey to Well-being A-Z”, encouraging attendees to adopt healthy habits and prioritise their overall wellness.
Supporting Healthier Communities
In addition to the educational sessions, the event offered a range of services and activities, including professional health consultations, skincare and wellbeing sessions, and informational resources, giving participants direct access to expert guidance and support.
Speaking on the importance of strategic partnerships, Dr. Adnan Altamimi, Vice President for Administration and Finance and Head of Community Engagement at UTB, highlighted how collaboration can drive meaningful social impact.
“Through our UTB CarEs initiative and the collective efforts of our partners and stakeholders, we can empower individuals with knowledge, encourage early action, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our communities,” he stated.
UTB also extended its appreciation to Al Kindi Hospital, Royal Bahrain Hospital, Medstar Center, Adara, Bahrain Specialist Hospital & Clinics, and Gulf Corporation for Technology W.L.L. for their valued partnership and support in advancing UTB’s commitment to the health and wellbeing of both the University community and the wider public. Their contributions were instrumental in the success of the initiative and reflected a shared commitment to creating positive social impact and strengthening community outreach efforts.

Advancing Health, Education and Community Impact
As a World Health Organization (WHO)-recognised Healthy University, UTB continues to champion initiatives that extend learning beyond the classroom and into the wider community. Through industry collaboration, applied learning and civic engagement, the University contributes to Bahrain’s national priorities while fostering responsible citizenship and positive societal impact.
As the two-day initiative concluded, it is hoped that Blooms in Pink will continue to bloom across wider communities, inspiring informed choices, encouraging early action, and supporting healthier futures across Bahrain and beyond.
