UTB honoured in Doha for cyber research efforts

University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) proudly celebrates the achievements of its delegates, who were honoured for their outstanding contributions to research and innovation at the Gulf Cybersecurity Conference held in Doha, Qatar.

The conference brought together leading cybersecurity specialists from across the Gulf region and featured workshops, panel discussions, and case studies on cutting-edge cybersecurity advancements. Graced by the presence of Her Excellency Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al Jahrami, Secretary General of the Higher Education Council – Bahrain, the conference also highlighted regional efforts to strengthen cyber defenses and tackle emerging digital threats.

Representing the university were Dr. Fadheela Hussain and students Mohammed Al-Basri and Sayed Hassan Sayed Majid from the College of Computer Studies. They showcased two distinguished research studies in the form of scientific posters addressing critical challenges in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

The first research poster, titled “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Cyber Defense: Innovations in Protecting Digital Borders,” explored the application of advanced AI technologies, such as TSNERF and ICOVM algorithms, in enhancing threat detection and vulnerability management. It underscored the importance of integrating AI with security protocols to proactively counter evolving cyber threats.

The second poster, “Employing Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Attacks: Emerging Threats and Challenges in Modern Security,” examined the potential misuse of AI technologies, such as GAN networks, in creating advanced cyber-attacks like deepfakes and automated malware. The research emphasised the urgency of developing innovative defensive strategies to combat these sophisticated threats.

Dr. Hasan Almulla, President of UTB, expressed his pride in the university’s achievements at the conference, stating: “UTB remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation in cybersecurity through the remarkable efforts of our students and staff. We are proud to contribute to this significant platform, which unites regional experts to tackle pressing challenges and pioneer solutions in this field.”

UTB’s participation not only highlights its expertise in cybersecurity but also reinforces its role as a leader in fostering technological innovation and academic excellence in the region.
