UTB forges strategic partnership with Sportheca to advance sports technology and innovation
The University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) has entered into a groundbreaking partnership with Sportheca SA, marking a significant step towards fostering innovation in sports technology and education. The collaboration was formalised in the presence of esteemed dignitaries from the Embassy of Brazil to the Kingdom of Bahrain, led by His Excellency Ambassador Adriano Silva Pucci.
The Memorandum of Understanding, signed by UTB President Dr Hasan Almulla and Sportheca’s Founder, Mr Eduardo Tega, underscores a shared commitment to collaboration in sports technology, research, and entrepreneurship. This partnership aims to drive academic and professional excellence in sports science and technology, reinforcing UTB’s position as a leading university in innovation and industry integration.
Under the terms of the agreement, UTB and Sportheca will jointly explore initiatives in sports technology, innovation and education, scientific research, and the development of training programmes. The collaboration will also extend to foster entrepreneurship and incubation programmes specialising in sports technology, positioning UTB as a hub for cutting-edge advancements in the field. Additionally, a Venture Building project will be established with the purpose of creating and developing new startups from the ground up, aiming to generate successful and scalable businesses that can thrive in competitive markets.
As part of this initiative, various workshops, classes, and courses in sports technology, science, and entrepreneurship will be launched, aiming to develop a highly skilled and specialised workforce in the region.
As a first step in this partnership, UTB and Sportheca have agreed to organise a Sportstech Conference, designed to facilitate knowledge exchange, idea-sharing, and professional networking in sports technology and entrepreneurship. The conference will include a variety of activities aimed at fostering learning, collaboration, and innovation within the Sportstech sector. The primary goal of the Sportstech Conference is to generate awareness and interest in the Sportstech segment among key local stakeholders, such as students, developers, teachers and investors. By bringing together these key stakeholders, the conference aims to assess the potential and interest in the Sportstech industry, enhance engagement across the entire ecosystem, and kickstart the development of a thriving Sportstech sector in Bahrain.
Dr Hasan Almulla expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “This strategic partnership with Sportheca aligns with UTB’s vision of integrating technology with education to enhance industry-relevant skills. By combining our academic expertise with Sportheca’s industry experience, we will create new opportunities for research, innovation, and professional development in sports technology.”
Sportheca, a leading Brazilian factory of Sporstech companies, brings a wealth of expertise to this partnership. Mr Eduardo Tega emphasised the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Our alliance with UTB is a major step towards empowering young people to build careers at the intersection of technology, sports, and innovation. This partnership is not just about education; it’s about fostering a mindset. Our goal is to bring our countries closer by sharing the Brazilian approach to sports: the ability to overcome challenges with resilience, creativity, and strong soft skills, turning obstacles into opportunities for success.”
This initiative aligns with UTB’s ongoing developments in international partnerships that enrich the learning experience and career prospects of its students while contributing to industry advancements, including the completion of the Olympic-sized aquatic centre, set for the coming months and will serve as a world-class training hub and tournaments venue for aquatics and swimming athletes from around the world. These continued efforts are designed to provide students with cutting-edge, industry-aligned educational and innovation opportunities, further strengthening UTB’s stature as one of Bahrain’s largest private universities, dedicated to academic excellence and technological innovation.
