UTB empowers students through key professional skills
The English Club at the University of Technology Bahrain (UTB), with the supervision of the Centre for General Education and support of the Deanship of Student Affairs, organised The English Arena – an inter-collegiate English language competition designed to celebrate language proficiency while cultivating essential professional skills, most notably communication, teamwork, and leadership – skills highly valued across the fields of business, engineering, and technology.
Ahead of the competition, the newly appointed English Club officers were introduced, and the contributions of the outgoing team were duly recognised. All officers affirmed their commitment to fostering collaboration to advance the club’s objectives and strengthen student engagement and academic support across all colleges at UTB.
The English Arena was structured as a dynamic contest of wits, words, and strategic thinking, drawing enthusiastic participation from students across UTB’s academic programmes. Teams, composed of students from varied programmes, competed in four intellectually stimulating rounds that tested their English fluency, critical thinking, and ability to collaborate, closely mirroring the demands of real-world professional environments.
Participants showcased not only linguistic competence but also leadership, delegation, and adaptability, key attributes for future professionals navigating project-based work, cross-functional teams, and client-facing roles. The inter-collegiate format further encouraged the exchange of diverse perspectives, reinforcing the importance of inclusivity and innovation in modern workplaces.
The auditorium was abuzz with energy as the audience actively engaged through live challenges and interactive segments, contributing to an atmosphere that was both vibrant and intellectually enriching. The event highlighted the transformative power of language as a tool for unity, persuasion, and leadership, and reaffirmed UTB’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically prepared but also confident and effective communicators.
The winning team received prizes, while all participants were recognised with certificates and tokens of appreciation. Additional giveaways were awarded to members of the audience, boosting participation and adding an element of surprise and excitement to the afternoon.
The university commends the English Club for their initiative and dedication to student growth. The English Arena reflects UTB’s ongoing efforts to nurture future-ready graduates equipped with the soft skills needed for success in a global workforce. Witnessing students apply communication and collaboration in such an engaging atmosphere was both inspiring and impactful.
Aligned with UTB’s student-centred approach to education, the English Club continues to lead initiatives that integrate language development with leadership and career readiness.
