UTB earns top honours in IEEE and Bahrain Society of Engineers competitions
The University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) celebrates a remarkable achievement by a team of students from the College of Engineering whose graduation project has earned recognition across multiple prestigious engineering competitions and exhibitions in Bahrain.
The student team secured top honours – first place in the IEEE Day 2026 Undergraduate Final-Year Project Competition, held at the Arab Open University, and third place at a separate competition organised by Bahrain Society of Engineers. Competing against teams from other universities, UTB engineering team impressed the judging panel of experts from both industry and academia with their project, “Autonomous Mobile Robot for Warehouse.”
A Project Recognised by Industry and Academia
Building on this momentum, the successive achievements reflect the students’ dedication, teamwork, and commitment to engineering innovation, while demonstrating the impact of interdisciplinary collaboration between Mechatronics Engineering and Informatics Engineering students.
The award-winning project was developed by a team of four students, including Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering students – Nathalie Ahmed Alomari and Mahanna Mabkhoot Al-Hamim; and Bachelor of Science in Informatics Engineering students – Zahra Jasim Hasan and Abdalla Elsiddig. Their accomplishments exemplify the innovation, perseverance, and collaborative spirit that define UTB’s student community.
UTB extends its heartfelt congratulations to the students on their outstanding success and looks forward to seeing them continue to transform innovative ideas into impactful solutions that contribute to the advancement of industry and society.
Prior to its success at the IEEE and Bahrain Society of Engineers competitions, the project had already gained recognition during UTB Projects Expo, where it was presented to the public and evaluated by a panel of industry experts. The team was awarded First Place, highlighting the project’s innovation, practicality, and potential value to industry.

Driving Excellence in Engineering Education
The achievement also reflects UTB’s commitment to delivering high-quality engineering education aligned with international standards. As the first private university in Bahrain to receive ABET accreditation, UTB continues to prepare graduates with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and industry-focused mindset required to thrive in a rapidly evolving engineering landscape.
The success is particularly significant for the University’s Mechatronics Engineering programme, as UTB remains the only university in the Kingdom of Bahrain offering a bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, providing students with a unique opportunity to specialise in one of the fastest-growing fields at the intersection of mechanical systems, electronics, automation, and intelligent technologies.
