UTB celebrates innovation with fourth edition of EDP
University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) marked another significant milestone with the culmination of its fourth Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP), attended by the Secretary General of the Higher Education Council, Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al Jahrami, along with students, faculty and administrative staff, and a group of partners from industries and the local community.
This event is part of the university’s efforts to support and develop the culture of entrepreneurship among its students, enhancing their skills in this field by providing them with the necessary knowledge and abilities to create and manage their own projects, and aiming to highlight successful models and inspiring stories.
Graduating students from the colleges showcased their innovative projects, demonstrating their creative brilliance and expertise in their respective fields of study. Organised by the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences, the program featured a diverse array of business concepts, from cutting-edge technology startups to impactful sustainable initiatives.
Dr. Diana Al Jahrami, the Secretary General of the Higher Education Council, praised the attention given by UTB to developing the entrepreneurial skills of its students, considering them the cornerstone of achieving sustainable development. She emphasised that organising such programs aligns with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s vision to enhance entrepreneurship and innovation, which is one of the fundamental pillars for diversifying the national economy and achieving sustainable development. She also confirmed that these efforts contribute to strengthening Bahrain’s position as a preferred destination for international students, entrepreneurs, and investors, opening promising horizons for a more prosperous future.
Dr. Hasan Almulla, President of UTB, remarked that the program aims to foster initiative and innovation among students by equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge to start their own projects as well as a supportive environment and incubators for their entrepreneurial ideas. He pointed out the university’s goal of transforming Bahrain into a leading regional centre for entrepreneurship, encouraging students to take advantage of available opportunities and develop projects that would contribute to the national economy’s growth. Furthermore, he highlighted that the initiative seeks to create sustainable job opportunities by connecting students with relevant institutions in both the public and private sectors.
The program concluded with the recognition of the top-ranked projects, which excelled in the evaluation criteria and outperformed their peers. This recognition aims to inspire and encourage other students to initiate and innovate by learning from their peers’ success stories.
Through initiatives like the EDP, UTB equips students with the skills and confidence to make a lasting impact on society through their entrepreneurial endeavours, positioning them as the next generation of leaders and innovators.
