UTB and Ministry of Interior organise fire safety awareness lecture
The University of Technology Bahrain (UTB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior – General Directorate of Civil Defence, organised an introductory lecture on fire safety and prevention guide as part of efforts to enhance compliance with national safety standards and build professional capacity among engineers and engineering firms.
In his opening remarks, Brigadier Pilot Ali Mohammed Al Kubaisi, Director General of the General Directorate of Civil Defence, highlighted the guide’s role as a key national reference for fire protection, emergency preparedness, and the safeguarding of lives and property. Similarly, Captain Musab Ali Al-Khaldi, Director of the Protection and Safety, outlined the lecture’s objective of clarifying stakeholder responsibilities and standardising technical procedures for fire protection systems.
The lecture provided an overview of the national guide and covered essential technical requirements, including construction standards, engineering drawings, emergency exits and lighting, Civil Defence access routes, fire alarm and suppression systems, hazardous materials, and real-world application challenges. Participants also engaged in discussions and raised practical implementation questions.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr Hasan Almulla, President of UTB, affirmed the university’s commitment to supporting national initiatives and community service. He noted that the collaboration reflects UTB’s strategic role in fostering partnerships, enhancing knowledge exchange, and building national competencies in safety and protection.
The session concluded with a review of additional sections of the guide and an emphasis on continued cooperation between academic institutions and the Ministry of Interior to strengthen public safety and emergency preparedness across the Kingdom of Bahrain.
