UTB and ASRY sign MoU to advance engineering talent and practical training in Bahrain

The University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reinforcing a shared commitment to talent development, practical training, and industry-academic collaboration in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The MoU was signed at ASRY facility, with UTB President Dr Hasan Almulla and ASRY Vice President for Corporate Support, His Excellency Shaikh Duaij bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, representing the two parties. This agreement paves the way for UTB’s engineering students to gain hands-on experience through structured, real-world training hosted at ASRY’s state-of-the-art industrial facilities.

UTB, one of Bahrain’s leading universities for technology-driven education, continues to strengthen its student-centred approach by integrating academic learning with industry exposure. The university offers bachelor’s programmes in mechatronics, informatics, and environmental engineering and business, and is known for its emphasis on innovation, applied knowledge, and employability.

Meanwhile, ASRY, a leading maritime and industrial services provider headquartered in Bahrain, is recognised across the region for its advanced shipbuilding and repair capabilities. With decades of experience and a strong legacy in technical excellence, ASRY is well positioned to mentor and develop the next generation of engineering professionals. Under the agreement, ASRY will offer students from UTB practical training opportunities, site visits, and mentorship from experienced industry experts.

As part of the collaboration, students enrolled in the practical training programme will participate in internship opportunities, during which they will work closely with ASRY professionals and operate within real-world project settings. UTB will oversee the selection and academic preparedness of trainees, while ASRY will provide access to its facilities and ensure the programme aligns with industry standards.

Additionally, ASRY staff can study UTB’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, encouraging further professional development and lifelong learning among ASRY employees. UTB will also support the delivery of joint training sessions by making university facilities available for collaborative use.

Speaking on the MoU, Dr Hasan said that the partnership is a testament to UTB’s mission to align education with industry, equipping students with practical skills that are directly relevant to the demands of the job market. “We are proud to collaborate with ASRY, whose reputation for excellence adds significant value to this initiative,” he said.

His Excellency Shaikh Duaij bin Mohammed Al Khalifa added, “At ASRY, we are deeply committed to cultivating local talent and strengthening Bahrain’s engineering and industrial capabilities. This partnership with UTB allows us to actively contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce, while sharing our expertise with the engineers of tomorrow.”

As part of the wider scope of engagement, ASRY is also set to participate in UTB’s career fairs and conferences, further strengthening its presence within the academic community and enhancing career pathways for students.

This MoU not only exemplifies UTB’s commitment to meaningful partnerships but also contributes to Bahrain’s national vision of developing a skilled, future-ready workforce equipped to lead in engineering, maritime, and industrial sectors.
