With the theme, “Towards Excellence in Science, Information Technology and Business Research”, the 2nd AMA International University-Bahrain (AMAIUB) Research Colloquium was held on November 1, 2014 at the University Auditorium.
In her welcome address, AMAIUB’s Head of Administration Ms. Buena Gracia A. Canzana emphasized the social, cultural, economic and environmental impacts of research in the society.
Dr. Nabil El Kadhi, university provost mentioned that the research colloquium is one good avenue for teachers to grasp new ideas, methods, and techniques across a whole range of disciplinary and multi-disciplinary areas.
AMAIUB was privileged to have Mr. Nejib Friji as guest speaker for the said activity. Director of the United Nations Information Centre for the Gulf countries, Mr. Nejib discussed the topic on “UN Post 2015 Development Agenda”. He also outline the a number of priorities of the UN which are good education, better healthcare, and better job opportunities among others.
Mr. Nejib also acknowledged the efforts of AMAIUB for conducting worthwhile activities such as the research colloquium, for establishing research thrusts which are in line with the UN’s agenda, and for embracing research as part of the university’s institutional culture. He thanked the faculty for all the research endeavors they had which are all contributory not only to Bahrain’s socio-economic development but also to the world as a whole.
Accordingly, Mr. Nejib encouraged the AMAIUB administration to tie up with United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR),the research and training arm of the UN system.
“I am looking forward for more partnerships between UN and AMA International University-Bahrain”, Mr. Nejib remarked.
On the other hand, AMAIUB’s Head of Research and Publication Office, Dr. Amin El Meligi discussed the university’s research goals and global warming’s consequences and solutions.
During the afternoon session, selected faculty members presented their outputs in poster and oral presentations. Winners were awarded after deliberation by the board of judges.
For the poster presentation, the winners were: Dr. Belen Lumeran, 1st place; Dr. Douglas Salazar, 2nd place; and Dr. Manolo Anto , 3rd place.
For the oral presentation, the winners were: Dr. Dennis Blanco and Mr. Belgaum Riyaz, 1st place; Dr. Rajansudhi Dey, 2nd place; and Mr. Jero Sayco, 3rd.
Conducted annually, the research colloquium ensures that AMAIUB’s research thrusts and outputs are aligned with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s principles of sustainability, competitiveness and fairness which are all based on its Economic Vision 2030.
