Dr. Amin attends Boston conference

Dr. Amin ElMeligi, Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry, Head of Research and Publication Office of AMA International University Bahrain (AMAIUB) attended the International Conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy 2015 in Boston, USA, on July 22-26.

With his lecture entitled, Nano-Layered Materials for Drug Delivery and Trapping Harmful Anions in Tumor, Dr. Amin was one of the session speakers during the said event. His lecture focused on drug delivery systems and trapping of harmful anions in the tumor.

During his speech, he emphasized that there is an urgent need for the development of effective drugs to fight the tumor and stop the growth of abnormal cells. The nanostructure of the layered materials could intercalate different harmful compounds in the interlayer gap. Chemotherapy is one of treatments of tumor. There are problems facing the use of chemotherapy drugs, a lack of accumulation of appropriate concentrations in the tumor regions. Therefore, it is necessary to the existence of a suitable carrier for drugs to maintain the appropriate concentrations in the tumor regions. For the first time, these materials will be tested as a carrier for the anticancer drugs into tumor and as a trapper for harmful and carcinogenic compounds in the tumor.

The conference was a gathering of researchers from different countries, with 350 lecturers and papers simultaneously presented in 7 different sessions. Proud representative of AMAIUB, Dr. Amin also acted as chairman of one of the sessions.

Organized by the international congress for Drug Discovery & Therapy World in Boston, USA 2015. It brings together the world’s leading scientists in the field of drug discovery and therapy to discuss their latest researches in the exciting setting of Boston. This unique international conference provides a platform for all pharmaceutical scientists, internists and primary care physicians to discuss important international breakthroughs in drug discovery and new therapeutics.
